Asif obtained his LL.B (hons) degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK in 2000. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London in July 2001. Asif is enrolled as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Asif began his career in Bangladesh with Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed & Associates in August 2001. , a leading law firm in Dhaka, Bangladesh Thereafter, in 2006 Asif joined SerajulHuq’s Associates, which was at that time headed by Mr. Anisul Huq presently the Honourable Minister for the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in the Government of Bangladesh.

Asif is involved in commercial (including mergers and acquisitions), banking and company law matters. Asif’s expertise in the firm includes advising clients in the areas of gas and oil exploration, power generation and telecommunications as well as other contractual and commercial matters. He has been closely involved in numerous projects such as the first low and medium income housing project undertaken in Bangladesh. He is actively involved in banking law and corporate finance work drafting documentation for various syndicated loans. Asif has also provided assistance in the arbitration proceedings between Shell and Government of Bangladesh and has also defended a client before the World Bank Administrative Tribunal.

Asif has undertaken a large amount of advisory work for corporate clients on matters such as negotiation and review of contracts, international trade, banking regulations, corporate compliance, joint venture agreements, corporate finance arrangements, establishing companies, securitization and taxation. Asif is experienced in litigation and arbitration and has a sizeable legal practice in both the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Dhaka District Court.

Asif was appointed as an Assistant Attorney General in the landmark case of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of the nation, Murder Case” at the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Asif has also been appointed as the local legal counsel by Petorbangla, BAPEX and the Government of Bangladesh in the arbitration case held at ICSID against NIKO in ICSID Case No. ARB 10/11 and ICSID Case No. ARB 10/18 .

Asif is a Commissioner at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct Commission and regularly attends hearings in proceedings brought under the ICC Code of Conduct. Asif is a member of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA).
